USTA New England Awards
Junior Sportsmanship Awards
Awarded to the USTA New England boy and girl in the 12-and-under, 14-and-under, and 16-and-under age divisions who exemplified sportsmanship qualities on and off the court during the past year.
Junior Improvement Award
Awarded to the USTA New England boy and girl, under age 19, who showed the most improvement during the past year.
William Hoblitzelle Award
Awarded to the USTA New England Girls 18-and-under player who best demonstrated a superior blend of sportsmanship and leadership on and off the court. The award was first given in 1958 and is named in honor of William Hoblitzelle. Hoblitzelle was a dedicated umpire who was instrumental in organizing junior events, especially team matches between New England and Canada.
Colonel Bernard Gorfinkle Award
Awarded to the USTA New England Boys 18-and-under player who exemplified outstanding sportsmanship on and off the court throughout his career.
William Freedman Award
Awarded to the person who made an outstanding contribution to the development of junior tennis throughout his or her career. This award, given in memory of William Freedman, was first presented in 1969.
Junior Tournament of the Year Award
Awarded to a USTA New England junior tournament that provided the optimal experience for junior players during the past year.
Adult Tournament of the Year Award
Awarded to a USTA New England adult tournament that provided the optimal experience for USTA New England players during the past year.
Edwin Goodman Family of the Year Award
Awarded to the USTA New England family that as a group has contributed the most to tennis in New England.
Gardner Ward Chase Memorial Award
Awarded to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to tennis in New England during his or her lifetime. This is the highest honor an individual can receive from USTA New England.
Adult Female Sportsmanship Award
Awarded to the adult female player who showed continued sportsmanship on and off the court during the past year.
Adult Male Sportsmanship Award
Awarded to the adult male player who showed continued sportsmanship on and off the court during the past year.
USTA League Tennis Coordinator of the Year Award
Awarded to the USTA league coordinator who showed initiative in growing tennis in the local area and provided quality service to USTA League players during the past year.
USTA League Tennis Female Captain of the Year Award
Awarded to the female USTA League captain who showed exemplary leadership, sportsmanship and enthusiasm to her team and to the USTA League program during the past year.
USTA League Tennis Male Captain of the Year Award
Awarded to the male USTA League captain who showed exemplary leadership, sportsmanship and enthusiasm to his team and to the USTA League program during the past year.
High School Coach of the Year Award
Awarded to the high school tennis coach in New England who mastered the skills of leadership and team development.
College Coach of the Year Award
Awarded to the college tennis coach in New England who showed dedication to the sport of tennis and successfully transferred that enthusiasm to team members.
Community Tennis Association of the Year Award
Awarded to the USTA Community Tennis Association that made the greatest impact in its community during the past year through programming, events and partnerships.
NJTL Chapter of the Year Award
Awarded to the USTA NJTL chapter that showed an exemplary commitment to the sport through tennis and educational programming and community partnerships.
USTA School Tennis Program of the Year Award
Awarded to the USTA School Tennis program that showed a significant community presence during the past year by creating or maintaining in-school activities and after-school opportunities.
USTA Jr. Team Tennis Coordinator of the Year Award
Awarded to the individual who makes an extraordinary effort to organize, facilitate and promote USTA New England’s Jr. Team Tennis programming.
USTA Jr. Team Tennis Coach of the Year Award
Awarded to to the individual who dedicates his or her time to instructing young players and makes a positive impact on their lives both off and on the tennis court.
Official of the Year Award
Awarded to the USTA official in New England who provided exemplary officiating of professional or amateur events during the past year and supported USTA New England in its mission to promote the game of tennis.
Special Recognition Award (Junior or Adult)
Awarded to an individual, group or organization that has made a special contribution to tennis in New England during the past year or over time.
