The ESL Rating list includes players who played adult or senior league tennis in Championship year 2011. The list is inclusive of all players whose rating has stayed the same or has moved up or down. The list does not include players who played Mixed Doubles exclusively and those ratings will be available when the year end ratings are published.
ESL Ratings are used for USTA Leagues where players begin registration and their match play prior to the publication of Year End ratings.
An ESL Rating is the dynamic rating of a player as of 08.31.11. The dynamic rating is a calculation of a player’s match record through the end of the USTA New England league championship season (Aug. 30, 2011).
Year End NTRP Ratings are published after the completion of the USTA League national championships.
When registering for an Early Start League team, if a players early start rating is higher than what is required for the team they will be given the opportunity for an automated appeal down during the registration process. Their appeal will be granted or denied during that process based on whether or not they meet the eligibility requirements. The benchmark restriction does not apply to this process. All appeals up will continue to be done using the manual process and must be submitted to the local league coordinator who will include them on the spreadsheet and send the request to the New England League Manager.

The following is an excerpt from the USTA New England Section Regulations regarding Early Start League Ratings:
11. Early Start League NTRP RATINGS
11.1 Valid Rating: A player who registers for Early Start Leagues between September 1 and the date the Year-End ratings are released will use his Early Start League Rating. A player who does not have a valid computer rating must self-rate.
11.2 Early Start League Rating: Dynamic Ratings are published following the New England USTA League Section Championships. The early start league rating will be considered 'Early Start League Ratings' for local leagues where players register and league matches begin before the 'Year End Ratings' are published. To qualify as an Early Start League teams must be registered, a schedule generated and matches started before Nov 1st.
11.3 Early Start League Player whose Year End Rating is higher than their Early Start League Rating: The following regulation applies to the Adult, Senior, Super Senior, Mixed and Senior Mixed divisions that participate in Early Start Leagues. If a player's Year End Rating is higher than his Early Start League Rating, the player must decide the action he will proceed with:
11.3.1 Submit a borderline appeal on line. If the appeal is granted, the player may continue to play on the Early Start League team. The player's Year End Rating will be changed on TennisLink to reflect the borderline appeal. A borderline appeal is automatically granted if the appeal meets the established National guidelines. If the borderline appeal is denied, a player cannot continue to play on the Early Start League team and must move to his appropriate NTRP level of play within a specific period of time as determined for that championship year.
11.3.2 If a player's Year End Rating is higher than his Early Start League Rating, and he decides not to file a borderline appeal he must move up to the next NTRP level of play.
11.3.3 If a player chooses to appeal his Year End Rating in order to remain on the Early Start League team and the appeal is granted, the player will not be eligible to file a second appeal later in the championship season to qualify for in-level NTRP roster requirements for another team or for any other reason.
11.3.4 If a player must move to the next higher NTRP level, all matches played in the Early Start League prior to the Year End rating publication date, will stand.
