Harvard Takes Campus Championship

NEW HAVEN, CT - The USTA Campus Championship – New England was held on Saturday, Oct. 9 at Yale University.

 

Sixteen teams attended, including Boston College, Bowdoin College, Brown University, Central Connecticut State University, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, Northeastern University, Sacred Heart University, Tufts University, University of Connecticut, University of Massachusetts Amherst, University of New Hampshire, University of Vermont, Wesleyan University, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and Yale University. About 150 students participated in the annual event. Teams played in a compass draw to determine the winner and the three teams that would earn a bid to the 2011 National Campus Championship.

In the first semifinal, Brown defeated Boston College in an exciting mixed doubles tiebreaker for a final score of 23-22. In the second semifinal, Harvard took out two-time defending champion Dartmouth, 28-14.

In the final, Harvard was able to clinch wins in women’s doubles and singles, men’s doubles, and mixed doubles to capture the title over the Bears. In the third place playoff, Boston College defeated Dartmouth, 24-22, in a match that came down to mixed doubles. Harvard, Brown, and Boston College will represent New England at the National Campus Championship held on April 7-9 in Cary, NC.
