The United States Tennis Association (USTA) has selected Molly Hahn of Belmont, Mass. to be a member of the U.S. Alice Marble Cup Team for women 60 and over. Hahn will compete with her team in this year’s international team competition on the red clay courts in Antalya, Turkey, Oct 12 -18, 2008.
Persons who wish to serve on a USTA National Committee must submit a USTA national volunteer application by Monday, September 15, 2008. USTA National Committee volunteers will serve a two-year term beginning January 2009 through December 2010.
Hilton Head Island, SC - - Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) will hold a New England Professional Development Day on October 12, 2008, at the Middlebury Racquet Club in Middlebury, Connecticut. The event is open to all PTR and USPTA teaching professionals, high school and college coaches, as well as team captains and club players.
HAMDEN, CT - Identical twin brothers and USPTA certified tennis teaching professionals, Angelo A. and Ettore Rossetti are preparing to break the Guinness World Record for the longest contrived tennis rally Saturday, August 9 at Milford Indoor Tennis.
Last August 18-19th the brothers had accumulated 19,490 successful rallies over the span of two days. The record attempt began at 6:31 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on Saturday, August 18 and concluded at 5:09 a.m. On Sunday, August 19. This year they plan to start the attempt at 9 a.m. and should break the record by 12 midnight by their calculations.
NEWPORT, R.I. - The USTA New England Hall of Fame Class of 2007 was formally enshrined at a June ceremony at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport.

The former USTA New England junior star, who went on to play at the University of Florida, ripped the draw at last week’s Boyd Tinsley USTA Women’s Pro Circuit Event and collected $7,500 in prize money.

WHITE PLAINS, NY - The USTA announced this week that two New England communities would receive grants to further develop tennis programs aimed at helping youngsters to learn some of life’s most important lessons through the game of tennis.
The Boys & Girls Club of Rutland County (Vt.) received a $10,000 grant, and the Community Development Recreation of Fall River (Mass.) was awarded a grant in the amount of $22,000.
