Mixed Teams Close Out League Nationals
USTA League Nationals wrapped up the weekend of November 11-13 as four New England Mixed teams concluded the nearly two months of impressive play in Arizona, California and Alabama. The weekend featured teams in the Mixed 18 & Over 10.0, 8.0 and 6.0 divisions in Tucson, AZ as well as Mixed 40 & Over 9.0 and 7.0 in Surprise, AZ.
Mixed Teams Compete at Nationals
The first of two weekends of the USTA League Mixed National Championships got underway from November 4-6 as four New England teams competed in Tucson and Surprise, AZ. Cedardale Heath and Fitness Club in Haverhill, MA sent two teams out to Arizona. Adam Molda captained the Mixed 18 & Over 9.0 team that played in Tucson and co-captained the Mixed 40 & Over team Leonard Licari that competed in Surprise.
Men Finish Strong at Adult Nationals
For the first time this League National Championship season, a New England men’s team has won its flight and reached the semifinal round at USTA League Nationals. And in fact, two men’s teams achieved that feat the weekend of October 28-30 during the final weekend of Adult Nationals play before the Mixed Nationals commence. Both teams play out of Bass River Tennis Club in Beverly, MA.
‘Year of the Women’ at League Nationals
USTA New England had it’s most successful League Championship weekend of 2016 from October 21-23, as three women’s teams won their flights in California and Arizona and advanced to Sunday’s semifinal play. Natick Racquet Club headlined the weekend for New England, as they were one position shy of winning a National Championship and finished in second place in the 40 & Over 4.5+ Women’s division.
Adult 40 & Over 3.0 Teams Compete at Nationals
New England sent two teams to USTA League Nationals from October 14-16 at the Hilton El Conquistador Resort in Tucson, AZ. Resorts North, captained by Joan Ferranti, and The Granite State 8, captained by Paul Beauchesne, both competed in the Adult 40 & Over 3.0 division. It was the first Nationals appearance for either team, and Beauchesne said his team greatly benefitted from the experience.
NE Teams Reach Semis at League Nationals
Two New England teams earned fourth-place finishes at USTA League 18 & Over Nationals from October 7-9. Both Servivors, the 3.5 Women’s team out of Farmington Valley Racquet Club in Weatogue, CT, and Black Rock White, the 3.0 Women out of Black Rock Country Club in Hingham, MA, won their respective flights to advance to semifinal play.
CT Team Grabs Fourth at League Nationals
Stingers, the USTA League 18 & Over 4.0 team from Shippan Racquet Club in Stamford, CT, overcame extreme heat, medical issues and an incomplete lineup to earn a fourth-place finish and headline the opening weekend of Nationals for New England from September 23-25.
