CORAL GABLES, FL - Nicole Frenkel, a resident of Winchester, MA, captured the championship in the girls' 12s at the Junior Orange Bowl International Tennis Championships, defeating Russian Yulia Bryzgalova in come-from-behind fashion.
Frenkel lost in the second round of the Orange Bowl a year ago and entered the tournament looking to improve on that performance.
Frenkel, who trains at the Manchester Athletic Club, had already put together an incredible 2010 before winning in Florida.
In the summer of 2010, Frenkel earned a championship in three major New England tournaments - the Junior Section Championships, the Herb Schachter Memorial New England Clay Court Championships and the New England Hard Court Championships.
In addition to being recognized for her play, Frenkel has gained attention for her demeanor, and in 2008, received the USTA New England Junior Sportsmanship award.
