The South Shore Tennis Association of Pembroke, Mass recently celebrated its 19th season with an Awards and Recognition Banquet at the Rockland Golf Course facilities. President and Master of Ceremonies, Sharon Reed-Eramian awarded prizes to the top 3 players in each of 15 spring/summer singles and doubles leagues. A scholarship raffle featured many items donated by members including Terra Allegra cookware, a Yankee Droll bird feeder and Men’s and Women’s Avon gift baskets. A trivia contest was also held. The raffle and trivia contest raised over $400. Each year the SSTA awards a $500.00 scholarship to a south shore high school senior boy and girl who have been accepted to a two or four year college. The recipients must have participated in their School Varsity/JV tennis program for a minimum of 2 years, one of which is their senior year. Students must also have demonstrated true sportsmanship both on and off the tennis court.
The SSTA is truly a grassroots organization that has been "growing the game" with the help of an "all volunteer" group. We are 164 members strong and provide play from the 2.5 to the 4.0 level. All of our spring/summer leagues are played outdoors. Our players come from all over the South Shore of Boston. We are about to kickoff our fall/winter league and have already begun preparations for our 20th season of play!
You gotta love it!
